What is Trichology?
Trichology is the branch of medical and cosmetic study and practice concerned with the hair and scalp. The field of trichology is considered a para-medical discipline.
What Does a Trichologist Do?
Specialists working in this field help people with issues such as alopecia (hair loss), scalp conditions such as scalp psoriasis, oily or dry scalp, seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff. As well as hair shaft problems and trichotillomania.
When to see a Trichologist?
You know yourself best when it comes to any changes you are experiencing with your hair and scalp. I would recommend seeking out a second opinion if you begin to see any changes with your hair or scalp, especially if you are not seeing any improvements within six months.
My Story & My Promise
In 2020, I chose to study Trichology after working as a hairstylist for over 10 years. I gradually began to realize, as my clients sat in my chair and asked me important questions about their scalp or hair loss concerns, that I didn’t have an answer for them. I didn’t know what caused hair loss or how it happened but it triggered a lot of curiosity about the science behind hair and scalp health.
So I did some digging and discovered the field of Trichology — I immediately knew I was called to further my knowledge about the hair and scalp on the deepest level. Over the course of the last two years, I’ve dedicated myself to this field and practice, having completed rigorous academic and practical coursework and earning the official title of IAT Certified Trichologist in June 2022:
IAT Hair Practitioner Certificate Course 2020
IAT Full Trichology Certificate Course 2022
WTS Virtual Summit 2021
In addition to the scientific knowledge and practical skills that I’ve gained through the International Association of Trichologists, I’ve spent countless hours researching products and listening to lectures on the latest research in this field. I’m dedicated to absorbing all of the available information on this field and applying it to my practice.
It’s my goal to help people and to educate my clients about their diagnosis; more importantly, to have the capacity to treat every individual who’s in need of answers and solutions. I’ll work with every client to build a personalized program that will be suitable, affordable, and appropriate for each individual. I’ll coordinate continued care by making referrals to additional specialists or medical doctors if I think there may be an underlying medical condition that I’m unable to treat.
I promise to offer a private, in-depth consultation where we’ll work together to approach your scalp and/or hair loss challenges with careful consideration. We’ll discuss your overall health, including: diet, lifestyle, family health history, hair care regime, and any other factors that might influence your hair and scalp. I will take a microscopic look at your scalp using my trichoscope and may require blood work to gather more information about your health in order to make a more precise diagnosis and proper recommendation plan for you.
Please feel free to schedule an appointment with me if any of this information speaks to you.
